Ruth Nonu

Community Innovation Worker, Local Economics

Ruth leads our Local Economics work, noticing ways of that the community can build abundance together. Ruth facilitates the Good Cents Programme, coordinates the Porirua Wealth Pool, and oversees the Porirua Timebank.

She’s a Samoan woman with aiga at the centre. She brings rich life experiences to her work including her own journey from 'mamae' to 'aroha'.  A former nurse, she has deep relationship skills, can challenge people compassionately, and has super-skills in strength-based facilitation. Ruth is currently completing the MicroCredential Community Led Development programme with Inspiring Communities.

Ruth’s passion: “My passion is to find alternative ways for families to live the life they are supposed to and providing safe spaces for whānau to acknowledge that they are the expert in their own lives. I know that money doesn’t make the world go round – people do.”
