Shelby Lockwood

Community Innovation Worker, Ngahere Korowai

Shelby coordinates Ngahere Korowai, an audacious intergenerational project to have the community lead the reforestation of Belmont Regional Park. Shelby works with our Mens Group, who are the local champions of Ngahere Korowai with a vision  to restore their connection to Te Taiao. She also coordinates a collective impact project made up of government and community agencies who contribute to achieving this vision.

Raised in Glenside, Shelby studied Ecology, Biodiversity and Environmental Science at Victoria University. She then trained with the Department of Conservation cadetship programme. Her science background blends with hands-on practical experience working with local communities on ecological restoration.

Shelby’s passion: “I’m an enthusiastic conservationist who is driven to protect and preserve our native ecosystems for future generations.”
